The Committee was joined by representatives of Cambridge's Inspectional Services Department, including Commissioner Ranjit Singanayagam, to discuss the various ways that the City's inspectors increase neighborhood resiliency before, during, and after incidents.

February Meeting

Cancelled due to inclement weather.

At its first meeting of 2017, the Committee met with Bill Zamparelli, Community Relations Representative at Eversource, to discuss the regional network that supplies Cambridge's energy needs.

December Meeting

The December meeting of the Mayor's Special Advisory Committee on Neighborhood-Based Resiliency was cancelled.

The Committee was joined by Kari Sasportas, Manager, Community Resilience & Preparedness, Cambridge Public Health Department, and Nancy Rihan-Porter, Coordinator, Injury & Violence Prevention Program.

Amanda Chen from the Salvation Army explained her work diverting youth from the penal system through the "Bridging the Gap" program. 

Members reviewed progress through the past several months and put forward ideas for the final project.

Members of the Committee had an opportunity to discuss resiliency questions with directors of Cambridge's Emergency Management and Police Departments, including Gerald R. Reardon, Chief Engineer Cambridge Fire Department, and Christopher Burke, Acting Police Commissioner.

The Committee spoke with Department of Public Works Commissioner Owen O'Riordan on how the city is preparing for the storms of the century becoming storms of the half-century.

The Committee discussed resiliency planning with members of the City's Community Development Department, and adopted a working definition of "resiliency."

The Cambridge Water Department presented to the Committee on the measures in place to keep the City's water supply resilient, in the first of a series of guest speakers.​

The Committee continues to take shape and frame the issues which it wishes to explore throughout its yearlong process. Water and food resiliency identified as key topics to explore in upcoming meetings.​

The Committee met to discuss overall scope and discussion points for the project, as well as suggest potential members.
